4 Tips for Styling Your Wig

Last updated 8 months ago

While women may choose wigs to serve a variety of purposes, they all share one thing in common: Every woman wearing a wig wants to make sure her wig looks good! Styling a wig or hairpiece requires different methods and products than styling natural hair.

So, if you want you and your wig to look their best, keep the following tips and tricks on caring for a wig in mind.

A good-looking wig is one that looks natural. You want the hair of the wig to look real and full of life. Plus, you want your beautiful wig to last a long time. In order to maintain the beautiful look of a quality wig or hairpiece, you should:

  • Brush the wig with a brush made specifically for wigs. Make sure you use a vent brush or pick for curly wigs and a wire brush for straight ones. Start from the ends of the wig and work your way up.
  • Wash your wig after 8-12 uses. Start by brushing it to remove any excess dirt, add a tablespoon of wig shampoo to a sink filled with water, and then submerge the wig for about a minute. Rinse all suds out of the wig and gently dab it with a towel.

  • Always dry your wig or hairpiece naturally. Heat from blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can cause damage.
  • Use products made especially for wigs and hairpieces. You can style your wig with your fingers, or use a wig brush and other items such as wig styling mousse and spray conditioner to achieve that perfect look.
